'Data Regina', a fascinating interwoven tale of 16th century British history with Mary Queen of Scots, her poetry and her battles.
Olivia Louvel is a French-born, British composer, producer and artist whose work draws on voice, computer music and digital narrative. Fascinated by the existence of two queens ruling at the same time on a single island, within an extremely male dominated society in the 16th century, Louvel explores the reigns of Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I, delivering her own singular transposition: 'Data Regina'.'Data Regina' is a body of work which gathers electronic songs, ‘The Antechamber’, along with a series of instrumentals, ‘The Battles’, a sonic landscape inspired by the 16th century battles on the Anglo-Scottish border.
Louvel toured throughout the U.K. ( Ikon Gallery, Anthony Burgess Foundation…) presenting a headline audio-visual set of 'Data Regina' for ‘Synth Remix’, an event curated by Benjamin Tassie under Sound and Music's Composer-Curator scheme. 'Data Regina' was recently performed at De La Warr for the Outlands series and at Chapter, Cardiff.
